The Selker Family story is that this stone landmaker in Bentheim, Germany marked the land that Napoleon Bonaparte gifted to Herman Heinrich Selker. Herman Heinrich Selker is said to have been a soldier who served in Napoleon's army and survived the retreat from Moscow in 1812. Following his military service Herman Heinrich Selker is said to have served as a warden for the goverment prisons located in Bentheim.
