Margaret Chanis was born 22 Aug 1923 in Forest City, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Lithuanian immigrants John Chanis and Margaret Murosky. In 1938 at age 14 she was claimed as a meningitis victim when her family was living in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

She is photographed on the day of her First Communion.
