Bob Davis photographed the Lunar Eclipse from Aurora, Illinois using a Cannon Mark IV 5D.  It was a very cold night, around 4 F, which made for crystal clear skies. The moon was incredibly bright and was almost vertical in the sky in our location. After Total Eclipse started the moon did take on a reddish hue.

The collection also includes correspondence from Harry Anthony Murosky to his mother Helen Tillie Bukowski during WWII. There are also postcards the extended family sent while traveling. The front and back of postcards have been scanned in high resolution.

The McDonald girls were the children of Loraine Anthony McDonald & Frances Philomena Selker. The Selker siblings were the children of Leopold George Selker Sr. & Katherine V. Hartle.

The ladies in the portrait are believed to be Frances Philomena Guth (L) with her mother Theresa Loll (R). The man is likely a brother of Frances Philomena Guth. Frances Philomena Guth would have been between 21 and 23 in this photograph. Her mother Theresa Loll would have been between 49 and 51 in this photograph.

The family was one of the prominent families in Clarion, Pennsylvania in the late 1800’s. Leopold Guth owned his own jewelry and watch making business. The family’s prominence is demonstrated by the clothing the ladies are wearing and because they could afford to have their photograph taken.

This tin type and several others were included in the Frances Philomena Selker Collection. Frances Philomena Guth appears to have ended up with these photographs. She passed the photographs down to her daughter Frances Philomena Selker. Frances' daughter Mary Eugina McDonald ended up with her mother's photo collections which is time were handed down to me. He departed Germany in 1850 and settled in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania with his brother Francis Xavier Guth. He was a prominent citizen in Clarion owning his own jewelry and watch making business. He was also recorded as a silversmith.

He married Alsacian immigrant Theresa Loll on 20 Jan 1853 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Theresa Loll was born 12 May 1835 in Marcholsheim, Alsace, France. She departed France in 1852 with her family and settled in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania.  

The couple had twelve children. Leopold lived to age 74 and died on 13 June 1905. Theresa lived to age 69 and died on 12 September 1904. They are both buried at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion County Pennsylvania. 

These cabinet cards were included in the Frances Philomena Selker Collection. The full cabinet cards have fine embossed patterns which indicate the subject was photographed between 1894 and 1900. Leopold would have been between 64 and 70. Theresa would have been between 59 and 65. 

Their daughter Frances Philomena Guth likely had these photographs and those were passed down to her daughter Frances Philomena Selker. Frances' daughter Mary Eugina McDonald ended up with her mother's photo collections which is these were handed down to me. Photographer Unknown. Editing and digital restoration by Michelle M. Frances Winifred McDonald was born 18 March 1920 in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Loraine Anthony McDonald & Frances Philomena Selker. Anne Marie McDonald was born 21 May 1922 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Ambrose Aloysius McDonald and Gertrude Anna O'Neill. The McDonald family was so large that even though the cousins are a generation once removed they are still the same age.

In 1938 at age 14 she was claimed as a meningitis victim when her family was living in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

We can learn so much - what our ancestors looked like, what they wore and how our families lived. Sometimes the emotions shine through – joy and sadness.  Sometimes we recognize similarities that pass down through several generations.

My family is very fortunate that we have numerous old photographs. Many of these photographs are from the collections of my great grandmothers – Helen Tillie Bukowski and Frances Philomena Selker.  As the family genealogist and archivist these photo collections are now in my care.

My view is that family photographs belong to all for the descendants – our rich history is meant to be shared.  To share these photographs I have been working on a project called “Portraits of a Life”. The goal of this project is to digitize, archive, restore and share the old photographs. There are numerous steps required to reach the final stages of sharing the old photographs. After researching and considering many options I have opted to use Zenfolio. This website has been established to preserve and share the old photographs. The photos are organized into collections by surname. The photos within each gallery are presented in chronological order. Clicking a photograph within a gallery will bring up the image and also provide details about the photograph - providing a brief history of the individual. Selecting the slideshow option will allow all of the photographs in a gallery to cycle through.

A brief note regarding the names of women. It is common practice in genealogy to record women with their maiden name.  For reference this site uses the convention to record women with their maiden name. If the woman was married her spouses name will be recorded in the comments if known. 

There is no copyright on these photographs.  I felt it was important to not copyright these photographs – these photographs are not my work.  I am the simply the caretaker doing my part to ensure the photographs survive for future generations.  The photographs are available for download. To download a photograph right click on the image and select the download option. This will allow you to save a high resolution copy to your computer.

The website also has numerous sharing options. The "SHARE" button allows the photographs to be shared on social media or sent by email.  The site also has an option to purchase printed copies of the old photographs. Many of these images would look beautiful in frames. To purchase a photograph click the “BUY” button and follow the instructions in the popup menu.
